PyCon Moving to the Lone Star State

After three years in Washington DC, PyCon, the Python community conference run by the Python Software Foundation, is moving to Dallas, Texas.

PyCon will be held February 24-26 2006 at the Dallas/Addison Marriott Quorum Hotel. In addition to a three-day program of presentations by Python developers, this year’s conference adds a variety of tutorials to help meet the demand for Python training. The conference will be followed by a four-day “sprint” event, where developers from various Python projects come together for an intensive period of collaborative development.

Steve Holden, chairman of the first three PyCon conferences, said “It’s great to see that PyCon is continuing to grow and develop, offering new options and activities. Python users and developers continue to endorse a low-cost conference available to a wide spectrum of the community.”

“I’m looking forward to our new home in Dallas,” said 2006 chairman Andrew Kuchling. “We’ll have more space, more time available for Python developers to work together and learn from each other, and new features on the program such as tutorials, a plenary session for 5-minute lightning talks, and open space for attendees to organize their own impromptu sessions and presentations.”

Registration for the conference opened on 1st December; prices increase after December 31st. The easiest way to register is on the web site.

The conference hotel is offering special rates for conference delegates, available until February 1.
