SAN FRANCISCO, May 17 /PRNewswire/ — The Open Group, a vendor- and technology-neutral consortium focused on open standards and global interoperability within and between enterprises, today announced several key milestones during the first quarter, ending March 31, 2007. The Open Group saw a significant expansion of its membership with 27 new companies joining the organization from around the globe during this period. These new members represent a diverse group of organizations from across multiple industries, including Accenture, BT Group, Kestrel Technology, Nissan Motor Co. and Raytheon.

The organization entered 2007 with the successful launch of The Association of Open Group Enterprise Architects (AOGEA), which aims to advance professional excellence in the enterprise architecture discipline, while increasing job opportunities for its members and providing employers with enterprise architects whose skills are based on recognized best practices and transferable between companies. In addition, the Open Group's 11th Architecture Practitioners Conference (APC), held in San Diego, Calif. from January 29 – February 1, was the highest attended Open Group conference ever, with over 480 attendees from 18 countries.

The following is an overview of other key milestones that occurred during the quarter:

— The first Local Chapters of the AOGEA were launched in Toronto, Canada and Austin, TX; — The IT Architect (ITAC) and TOGAF(TM) certification programs continued to grow, with 1763 ITAC certified individuals and 2414 TOGAF(TM) certified individuals at the end of Q1 2007; — In addition to the San Diego conference, APC events in Mumbai, India and Cape Town, South Africa attracted more than 400 attendees between them; — The Open Group launched the HTNG (Hotel Technology Next Generation) certification program, with five products certified in the first month of operation; and — The Open Group's Fast-Track specification process, sponsored by IBM, was used effectively to upgrade the Distributed Relational Database Architecture (DRDA) version 3 standard (published in Jan 2004) to version 4.

"The strong growth in The Open Group's membership and attendance at our global events validate the relevance of our members' work to enterprises around the world," said Allen Brown, president and CEO, The Open Group. "Additionally, the continued growth in certified TOGAF and ITAC practitioners combined with the immediate impact of the AOGEA are reflections of the market need for skilled enterprise architects and for raising the level of professionalism."
