I think, that this is a great idea, seeing that so many universities, and libraries, now are restricting the use of computers so much, and are now ghosting their own images, to lock out users, at these type of places, you can run, and what your favorite programs, and applications online from anywhere.

Great!!

I owe everyone an apology, especially the developer of Portable Apps. The software was not my problem at all it was a series of two bad USB keys. After discovering the hardware was faulty I learned Portable Apps is a terrific product that should be in everyone's pocket. As far my 12 month gap on this site I am sorry also, I do not get to frequent this as much as I would like.

Again I am sorry Portable Apps rocks.

I totally agree that USB devices are the staple in today’s world! I don’t know how I ever functioned without my I-flapp before. It is the handiest thing I have ever owned. It has awesome portability, convenient and security. Anyone who travels or switches computers a lot should look into them, www.i-flapp.com

"Fedora has just as many, if not more, installations than Ubuntu/Debian. "

If Distrowatch hits are any indication, Ubuntu alone has nearly double the hits of Fedora.

It's impossible to know for sure how many of each distro are in use, but Ubuntu is the probably the most common right now.

And it wasn't easy for me to come to grips with. I'm an RHCE, and always liked Fedora, but Ubuntu just works better for most folks...

As for the article... Thanks. I'm gonna have to get the USB cable for my LG enV, and see if I can get any use out of it...

The cellphone info would be great if it included a rundown using Fedora or one of it's derivatives. I'm not suggesting a distro war but Fedora has just as many, if not more, installations than Ubuntu/Debian. Leaving out half the community isn't very nice.

There is a problem with your link to Damn Small Linux.... you are missing an "l". The link you have goes to one of those deceitful advertising websites with a URL that is really close in spelling to the intended website. Link should be http://www.damnsmalllinux.org

Great article! If I had the time, patience & IQ I would love to try all of those things. However, I was able to purchase USB keys with the current versions of Ubuntu and Knoppix preinstalled. These work extremely well, and the software available on them is at least an order of magnitude greater than DSL or Puppy. (I actually was able to make my own bootable Knoppix key, but it was for me too much hassle, and I would rather just support the guys who make this stuff for sale.
