Fortify&aposs Outstanding Third Quarter Highlighted by USAF Contract

PALO ALTO, Calif., Nov. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Fortify Software, the market leader in enterprise application security solutions, today announced record results for the third quarter, led by securing the military's largest investment in application security to date: a multi-million dollar selection by the U.S. Air Force. The deal, which encompasses Fortify's full suite of products -- source code analysis, security testing for QA, and application shielding -- helped lift the company past the 250-customer mark. A record number of new customers joined the Fortify fold in Q3, including Deutsche Post, New York State Department of Health, Informa Investment Solutions and Betfair, the largest e-commerce site in Europe. Fortify products are now used by Europe's largest postal service, the largest banks in Japan and Korea, and the largest telecommunications company in Italy. The company's spectacular growth was reflected in Deloitte's naming of Fortify as a Rising Star in both the 2007 Silicon Valley Technology Fast 50 and 2007 Technology Fast 500. Fortify also furthered its product leadership with several significant product updates.

Fortify also furthered its product leadership with several significant product updates.

"As hackers refine their abilities and techniques, institutions in a variety of markets have realized the importance that application security plays in the bigger picture of data protection and risk management," said John M. Jack, Fortify's CEO. "Our outstanding performance in the third quarter and the accolades that we have received simply reinforce the value and accuracy of our vision in this space. We will continue forging ahead to develop cutting- edge solutions that help our customers stay ahead of malicious intruders."

Key highlights from Fortify's third quarter:

The USAF, a leader in the Department of Defense's strategy for cyber security, announced in September that it will purchase $7 million of Fortify Source Code Analysis (SCA), Fortify Defender and Fortify Tracer to test its applications both statically and dynamically, and to monitor and protect these applications from attacks once they are deployed.

Betfair, the world's leading online betting company and the largest e-commerce site in Europe, also adopted Fortify SCA as a key tool in its software development process. Betfair will utilize Fortify SCA to help develop applications more quickly by automating the time-consuming manual processes that is associated with finding and fixing software vulnerabilities. Fortify also maintained its international momentum by expanding its customer base to include the largest banks in China, Korea and Japan.

In addition, Fortify was recently ranked fourth in Deloitte's Technology Fast 500 Rising Star national program, as well as an honoree within the Silicon Valley's Fast 50 Rising Star regional program, both of which recognize the fastest growing technology, media, telecommunications and life sciences companies based on percentage revenue growth over three years (2004-2006).

Fortify's continued leadership in security research led to the discovery of a new class of vulnerability in the third quarter — cross-build injection — which could allow attackers to insert Trojans, backdoors and other malicious code. In response, Fortify's Security Research Group released a Rulepack update to help Fortify's customers identify and eliminate this new vulnerability. The research embodied in this Rulepack update began as a direct result of Fortify's continued work with the Java Open Review (JOR) project, which is designed to help developers remediate security vulnerabilities and quality bugs in widely used open source projects, and demonstrates Fortify's commitment to securing each step in the software development lifecycle.

Furthermore, in an effort to automate compliance checking in C and C++ languages, the Carnegie Mellon Software Engineering Institute (SEI) CERT Coordination Center (CERT/CC) joined forces on an industry first alliance using Fortify SCA to enable software developers to eliminate vulnerabilities before applications are deployed.

Fortify also introduced Fortify SCA 5.0, a powerful new version of Fortify's flagship source code security static analysis solution, which delivers functionality never before available in application security including: the ability to create customized security rules by those who aren't software developers, enabling of global collaboration between software development teams, and support for virtually all major programming languages. Fortify SCA 5.0 provides its customers with much deeper levels of control, analysis and collaboration, which protects them against the threats found in the most popular Web 2.0 programming languages. In addition, Fortify SCA 5.0 now offers support for programming languages, including COBOL, JavaScript (Ajax), Classic ASP and PHP.

In order to address the upcoming Payment Card Industry (PCI) mandates, Fortify also released a bundle of its industry leading products and services that is designed to help retailers meet PCI requirements and enable them to become compliant with the PCI Data Security Standard (DSS). Fortify, which has experienced a 500 percent growth in its compliance practice and has joined the PCI Security Standards Council, is leading the charge to help merchants meet their application security requirements by year's end.
