Event computing entails processing of numerous, potentially high-volume streams of data and using rules to discern patterns in and describe responses to that data. With the appropriate structures for representing event data, mechanisms for handling streams, and an engine for processing pattern rules, extreme scale and complexity can be managed much more easily than with other methods. Only WebLogic Event Server provides these capabilities within the context of a general-purpose, ultra-reliable Java container. The new tooling is designed to make this even easier for the mainstream Java developer with application wizards and templates, intelligent code syntax support, and deployment automation.

Event computing is an important extension to service-oriented architecture (SOA). By extending SOA's typical request-response paradigm with event computing's "publish-and-subscribe" messaging approach, event-driven SOA can allow many applications to achieve much faster response times along with greater scalability and adaptability. By judiciously event-enabling components within an existing SOA solution, enterprises can preserve existing investments while achieving significant incremental benefit.
