Launched September 17, 2007, the contest attracted dozens of participants who competed to create extension plugins for the company's flagship Java IDE (Integrated Development Environment), IntelliJ IDEA. More than 40 valid entries were submitted to the jury panel comprised of JetBrains' senior engineers. The winning plugins garnered a total of over $59,000 (US) in cash and software prizes.

The most positive outcome, however, is that this year the entire IntelliJ IDEA community again benefitted from the influx of new and useful extensions for their IDE of choice."
All contest entries, regardless of whether or not they won a prize, have joined the ranks of hundreds (over 450 to date) of popular IntelliJ IDEA extensions available in the IntelliJ IDEA Plugin Repository at http://plugins.intellij.net/. All entries are free software published under Apache or BSD open source licenses.
The four plugins voted best received the following cash prizes: Prize Plugin Awarded Cash Prize First Prize XSLT-Debugger – enables interactive debugging $7,000 of XSLT stylesheets in IntelliJ IDEA. Second Prize Struts 2 – provides full integration of $4,000 Apache Struts 2 framework. Third Prize Database Navigator – a database development, $2,000 scripting and navigation tool (for Oracle) Team Leader's IntelliJad – integrates the Jad $3,000 Personal Prize decompiler into IntelliJ IDEA.
In addition to cash awards, the prize-winning plugins also receive collections of software licenses courtesy of JetBrains and other sponsoring vendors, which vary according to the prize awarded.
Three plugins also received Honorable Mentions, which came with awards of Amazon.com Gift Certificates and software prizes:
– Spell Checker – integrates a spell-checking inspection into IntelliJ IDEA
– xStructure – optimizes the display of XML file structure
– Grok – a fully extensible implementation expertise mining framework
