CHICAGO, March 31 /PRNewswire/ — Kognitio(R), a leading global provider of business intelligence (BI) and data warehousing solutions, announced today that it will work to develop, release and support a version of its WX2 analytical Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) that runs on the open source Solaris(TM) Operating System (OS).
Kognitio's WX2 technology on the Solaris 10 OS is scheduled to ship in the latter half of 2008 and on OpenSolaris(TM) early next calendar year. The announcement was made at the start of the Gartner Business Intelligence summit being held in Chicago, where Kognitio is a participating vendor.
"We are pleased that Kognitio has chosen to offer availability of its WX2 analytical database on the open source Solaris OS," said Juan Carlos Soto, vice president, global market development for Sun Microsystems. "Users can now better leverage WX2's power across many of the industry's leading business intelligence software tools available on Sun blades and rack-mounted servers. Ultimately, this gives the BI/DW marketplace more choice to effectively implement data warehouses."
Kognitio WX2 is one of the most mature analytical database technologies of its type on the market today, capable of helping mid-sized and larger enterprises alike gain unprecedented analytical access to, and insight from, massive amounts of data, thus allowing them to remain ahead of their competitors. More than twenty years of development enables Kognitio WX2 users to gain greater benefits in less time; by enabling users to query, in detail, vast amounts of granular data in just seconds, tests have shown WX2 consistently obtains results 10-60 times faster than typical databases.
WX2's flexible deployment options, ranging from software-only, to a packaged appliance that uses affordable, industry-standard hardware, to an outsourced Data Warehousing as a Service (DaaS(TM)) model, blend the lowest total cost of ownership in the market with the highest performance, making it a natural choice for companies seeking to extract value from their data.
Kognitio, an Associate Partner in the Sun Partner Advantage Program, has emerged as a leader in the markets it serves, with blue-chip organizations like BT, Loyalty Management Group, Scottish Power, and the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology (Calit2) relying on WX2. Moreover, Kognitio's innovative flexible pricing and deployment strategies allow companies to better allocate their assets across multiple locations without the need to buy separate licenses for each site, a clear advantage for larger firms.
"Making our offering available on the Solaris OS is consistent with our corporate rollout strategy, and we regard it as the next phase of evolution in the data warehouse market," said John K. Thompson, Kognitio's Executive Vice President and General Manager, US Operations. "Kognitio's rapid growth has made it possible for us to align ourselves with companies like Sun. Organizations with large data sets and sophisticated analytical requirements need increasingly powerful solutions; what worked yesterday may not be sufficient for today or tomorrow. We are committed to working with Sun to satisfy these requirements by developing solutions that will grow alongside our customers' needs."
