SUNNYVALE, Calif., April 8, 2008 /PRNewswire/ — agami Systems, Inc., an industry leader in delivering enterprise-class unified storage systems, today announces the addition of the AIS3006i to its portfolio of agami Information Server (AIS) unified storage systems. The AIS3006i is an integrated iSCSI storage server, providing 6 terabytes of physical capacity (fully RAID-protected), made available to clients over 8 gigabit-per-second Ethernet interfaces. The system features full enterprise-class capabilities, including snapshots, replication, and thin provisioning.
The AIS3006i is an ideal storage consolidation solution for virtualized data center environments, because it can present up to 1,024 user-configurable logical units (LUNs) simultaneously, distributed over as many as 256 separate target network addresses. The AIS3006i is particularly well suited for applications which require "block-level" storage such as Microsoft(R) Exchange and SQL Server(R), in either virtual or physical environments.
Small and mid-size businesses (SMBs) see iSCSI as a key requirement for virtual computing, because it allows them to separate data storage from servers without the expense and complexity of adopting an additional network technology. Gartner forecasts the current iSCSI storage market between $800M and $1.3B, and predicts growth to $2.5B in 2010(1). With the introduction of the AIS3006i, agami is capitalizing on this momentum by delivering a world-class system suitable for enterprises' most critical data, at a price point that is readily affordable by SMBs.
"We noticed that our partners and customers were very enthusiastic about the iSCSI feature of our unified AIS systems, so we designed a streamlined system based on the same architecture at an affordable price point for users whose storage needs are exclusively block-oriented," says David Stiles, CEO, agami Systems, Inc., "The result is the AIS3006i, efficient, reliable, high performing storage for IP-SAN infrastructures, that we feel meets the most demanding application needs."
The attractiveness of agami's iSCSI capability is supported by customer Acsys Interactive (http://www.acsysinteractive.com), a web hosting and design firm in Farmington, CT. David Fusfeld, Acsys Interactive's Infrastructure Manager, says, "The expandability of agami's iSCSI solution made it possible for us to virtualize our hosting environment. Today, with our AIS system, we support 60% more clients with about a third fewer physical servers."
Based on the highly successful agami Information Server (AIS) unified storage system architecture, the AIS3006i inherits an uncommonly rich feature set that includes:
* High Performance — The AIS3006i uses a 64-bit 4-way SMP kernel to deliver over 550 MB/second of streaming read performance over its 8 gigabit Ethernet network interfaces. * High Availability — The AIS3006i includes replication technology that can maintain up-to-the-minute replicas of the contents of groups of iSCSI LUNs on a remote AIS3006i or other AIS system. The built-in replication can be augmented with the optional agamiHA(TM) "shared-nothing high availability" feature, which automates failover of iSCSI storage services to a secondary AIS system in the event of a disaster. * Snapshots — The AIS3006i can automatically take time-consistent snapshots of groups of iSCSI LUNs for data analysis, backup, or protection against data corruption. Snapshots use the space-saving "copy-on-write" technique to minimize the impact on available storage capacity. * Thin Provisioning — The AIS3006i can defer the allocation of storage capacity to iSCSI LUNs until it is required by clients, thus simplifying the provisioning of storage to applications and improving resource utilization.
Pricing and Availability
The AIS3006i is available immediately through agami's channel partners and direct sales force. The $33,995 MSRP includes hardware and all operating software, as well as agamiFSR(TM) replication. agamiHA high availability is available as an option.
