LAS VEGAS, April 28 /PRNewswire/ — Bay Microsystems, Inc., the world's fastest growing network processor company and leading provider of high performance Wide Area Virtualization and Extension solutions, today announced that it will demonstrate the full capabilities of Wide Area Virtualization at Interop 2008, April 29-May 1, 2008, at the Las Vegas Convention Center. It will exemplify Wide Area Virtualization by showcasing a live example of VMware's High Priority VMotion application running across distant data centers in the Mellanox Alliance Partners area of booth 2307.

"Server and storage virtualization have advanced data center architectures providing consolidated administration, high availability, and resource optimization within a single facility," said Peter Yamasaki, Systems Business Development Director at Bay Microsystems. "However, despite these achievements, data centers typically remain islands of computing and storage resources and these benefits cannot be extended across a multi-site infrastructure. Wide Area Virtualization interconnects these islands, allowing customers to leverage data center resources on a global scale."

Bay Microsystems will be highlighting Wide Area Virtualization Extension(TM) (WAVE) for VMware, one of many applications for the ABEx family of network systems. WAVE enables enterprises and service providers to extend server and storage virtualization beyond the confines a single data center across Metro Area and Wide Area Networks. Leveraging YottaYotta's globally coherent storage virtualization, WAVE enables VMware's VMotion to migrate and relocate applications and services between data centers over hundreds or thousands of miles without downtime or application interruption."

"This provides the ability to perform 'follow-the-sun' migration of virtualized services, proactively distribute workload and realize energy cost savings," added Rob Handlovsky, Director of Marketing for YottaYotta. "When complemented with our GSX 3000's Fully Active wide area mirroring (WAM), WAVE enables data center resiliency capable of delivering Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) and Recovery Point Objective (RPO) of zero. This delivers unprecedented business continuity, minimizes TCO of enterprise wide datacenter infrastructure and optimizes utilization globally."

Bay Microsystems will be exhibiting in the Mellanox Alliance Partners area in booth #2307 at the Interop IT Conference and Exposition. Bay Microsystem's ABEx family of systems with ExtendX(TM), together with YottaYotta's GSX 3000 storage virtualization appliances and Mellanox ConnectX based network adapters and switches, allow organizations to realize the full potential of Wide Area Virtualization.

"Running InfiniBand over Wide Area Network (IBoWAN) allows mission critical applications such as database synchronization, data recovery, grid computing and others, to run over multiple data centers located in remote locations across the globe, maximizing efficiency and reducing overall operating costs," said Thad Omura, vice president of product marketing at Mellanox Technologies. "The combination of Bay Microsystem's ABEx family of systems with ExtendX, YottaYotta's GSX 3000 storage virtualization appliances, and Mellanox adapters with systems based on our InfiniBand switch silicon enables corporations to realize the full potential of Wide Area Virtualization."
