SAN FRANCISCO, May 29 /PRNewswire/ — JasperSoft, the market leader in open source business intelligence (BI), today announced that IT business and finance veteran Edward Saliba is joining the JasperSoft board of directors. Saliba brings an extensive background to the JasperSoft board, including positions at Sun Microsystems, and will be an important advisor as the company continue to experience increasing demand for open source BI.
"We see a lot of opportunity in the BI market this year, and expect increasing demand for affordable solutions that impact businesses' bottom line. Ed will help JasperSoft manage that growth and prepare the company for even wider adoption," said Brian Gentile, CEO of JasperSoft. "We're looking forward to utilizing Ed's expertise as we navigate with our customers through a new kind of BI market."
JasperSoft recently reported more than 80,000 deployments worldwide and the largest open source BI community with more than 65,000 registered developers cooperating on more than 300 Jasper-related projects. The company expects these numbers to grow rapidly as customers react to BI market consolidation and an economy that remains in flux. Analysts confirm that business intelligence solutions are among the few IT budget items that increase in importance during tight times. Saliba's business and finance expertise will complement JasperSoft's operations as it meets this increasing demand.
Saliba spent 12 years at Sun Microsystems where he held positions including vice president of finance and operations, vice president of human resources, and vice president of operations and chief of staff for iPlanet, a Sun and AOL alliance. Currently, Saliba is consulting with Tula Technology Inc.
Saliba has also served as a director on multiple public and private company boards, including serving as the Audit Committee Chairman on two public company boards. Through his work, Saliba participated in an independent board of directors finance committee that reviewed and approved the sale of a public company and provided leadership and influence required to streamline operations and improve performance.
"I am looking forward to serving on the board of directors for JasperSoft at such an exciting time for the company, "said Saliba. "Open source business intelligence can offer companies a great way to run their business efficiently without investing a great deal of time and resources. JasperSoft is in a unique position to offer highly supported BI solutions that are integrated into thousands of products."
Saliba holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Bachelors of Science in Accounting from Northeastern University. He also holds a Master of Business Administration from Babson College.
