OTTAWA, June 10 /PRNewswire/ – PIKA Technologies Inc., a developer of media-processing hardware and software, today announced that it has extended support for channel-associated signalling (CAS) including MFR2 to applications built using its high-level programming interface. As a result, CAS is now also available to applications built on the Asterisk open-source platform using PIKA hardware.
CAS uses routing information to carry the payload in voice and data transmissions on the same channel rather than requiring a separate channel. CAS/MFR2 is the signalling standard in Latin America. Until now, support for CAS in commercial-grade Asterisk-built applications has not been available. Now, the full range of PIKA's analog and digital boards can be used to deploy applications where CAS is required.
Developers using PIKA's high-level application programming interface GrandPrix will now find support for the CAS protocol for TDM channels, whether using board-based or host-based media processing. Customer applications will be able to initiate, receive, transfer and terminate CAS calls, as well as be able to connect and disconnect a CAS channel to or from any other channel in the system.
"As the first to offer this commercial-grade Asterisk functionality in Latin American, PIKA is continuing to build its reputation as a leader in the provision of application development tools to this growing market," said Terry Atwood, PIKA's vice president of sales, marketing and customer care. "The announcement of CAS for Asterisk completes the company's portfolio in Latin America and we're confident our distribution and development partners will see benefit from this added feature."
PIKA's training partner and reseller for Latin America, Intelix, is looking forward to selling CAS to its customer base.
"Our customers rely on Intelix to deliver the technology building blocks they need in order to be competitive in the market," said Fernando Villares Teran, owner, Intelix. "PIKA's addition of CAS/MFR2 support to its portfolio proves they understand the Latin American market and demonstrates their commitment to providing Latin American developers with the tools that they need."
