Open source technology has brings innovative solutions to the problems of database availability and performance. The leitmotif is scale-out: horizontal scaling of databases across hosts connected by a network. Scale-out designs handle issues ranging from basic availability to massive read and write scaling.

Continuent’s Tungsten stack provides a unique collection of technologies for database scale-out. The stack itself is open source and works well with popular open source databases. It is database-neutral and operating system independent, so it can provide solutions for commercial databases.

The Tungsten Stack is available at www.continuent.org, which is hosted by Continuent, Inc. Continuent offers commercial support of the stack for users interested in making it a critical part of their business systems.
