SAN JOSE, Calif., July 15 /PRNewswire/ — PacketMotion, Inc. today announced new features, reports and capacity for its PacketSentry appliance, the industry's first security system to track — in detail — user behavior within corporate networks.
The new features include support for Citrix XenApp (Presentation Server) to monitor all activity from people who access corporate resources using Citrix. The reporting capabilities have been significantly expanded to include Active Directory and file permission changes, identify dormant accounts, provide concise activity summaries, and offer exception reporting that is triggered only when unexpected activity takes place. The PacketMotion system also offers expanded storage — up to 7 terabytes — to meet the demands of larger enterprises that need to retain detailed use records for security investigations or incident forensics.
"Many of our customers are using PacketSentry to more effectively track high-risk users, from the super-users who have full administrative rights to employees who have just given their two-weeks notice," said Jonathan Gohstand, PacketMotion vice president of marketing. "They need a way to track and report what these people are doing in detail, whether for compliance reasons or to identify policy violations. We install our system in an hour, and start producing meaningful reports in two hours, with no agents or in-line devices — and no risk to production applications. Once PacketSentry is in place and operating, our new features ensure users can monitor even more of their network, and effectively manage records for large workforces. The new reports allow them to quickly identify patterns of data access and to set up exception reporting against those patterns."
Today's corporations face heightened pressure to track and document how people access and use internal files and resources. PacketMotion allows its customers to see the precise details of each user's activity on the network, such as which files, folders and databases they access. The PacketSentry system tracks user behavior across all major server and application platforms in an enterprise and delivers this detailed insight in a format that managers and security staff can easily use.
PacketSentry provides an effective way for corporations to address compliance requirements and reduce business risk from insiders misusing vital resources. The system allows businesses to track administrators, employees about to leave, and contractors and offshore consultants who operate outside normal corporate authority. As employees embrace emerging collaborative tools, PacketSentry can also identify when restricted information has been posted to Sharepoint servers or wikis, or included in instant messages in violation of internal controls.
The PacketSentry system can be quickly and efficiently deployed, because it does not require any changes to existing networks, logs or agents. By offering even more pre-defined reports to readily support audit needs, the system minimizes the need for customized reports to address internal security policies or compliance regulations.
The security system consists of two elements: the PacketSentry Probe, one or more of which are deployed in the network to monitor and apply policies to network user transactions, and the PacketSentry Manager, which receives information on network activity from the probes and stores a permanent record of user activity in its embedded Oracle database. Its 44 processing cores combine with an advanced rules engine to deliver deep packet inspection at gigabit LAN speeds, a feat that has only become possible through the emergence of multi-core processors.
PacketSentry 3.1.1 is available in the United States and Canada, and it can be purchased directly from PacketMotion, http://www.packetmotion.com. Pricing starts at approximately US$65,000, depending on the volume of network traffic monitored.
