SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 10 /PRNewswire/ — Bay Microsystems, Inc., a worldwide leader in high performance WAN extension, will showcase Wide Area Virtualization, enabled by its ABEx family of Multi-Service Transport Gateways, at VMworld 2008 (booth #1247) from Sept. 15-18, 2008, at the Venetian Hotel Sands Convention Center in Las Vegas.
At VMworld 2008, Bay Microsystems will demonstrate the capabilities of its multi-site Wide Area Virtualization solution, showing the migration of live applications between data centers using VMware ESX Vmotion and automated disaster recovery after a site failure with VMware ESX HA.
VMware virtualization delivers significant benefits to data centers, but until now these benefits have been limited to solitary data centers. Bay Microsystems' Wide Area Virtualization solution unleashes the power of virtualization by extending server and storage virtualization across multiple data centers, allowing the benefits of VMware to be realized across all of an organization's data center resources.
"Wide Area Virtualization enables virtual machines to be migrated live without interruption between data centers across hundreds or thousands of miles," said Peter Yamasaki, Systems Business Development Director at Bay Microsystems. "The benefits offered by our ABEx family allow resource utilization to be optimized across data center resources globally and enable companies to employ a comprehensive disaster recovery solution. In addition, this solution creates new business models where Service Providers can offer hosted datacenter capacity and disaster recovery capabilities as a service."
Bay's Wide Area Virtualization solution allows virtual machines to be migrated between data centers within seconds. In the event of unexpected outages, virtual machines and applications can automatically failover to alternative data centers. The core capability of the solution, which is enabled by Bay's innovative network silicon technology, is that it provides the ability to share large volumes of data between multiple data centers. Bay's solution has demonstrated the ability to deliver a remarkable 800 MBytes/sec of data over distances greater than 20,000 Km (nearly halfway around the earth). The demonstrated transfer rate achieved by the ABEx system is unprecedented, approaching the theoretical maximum.
Bay Microsystems' Wide Area Virtualization Solution can also be seen at VMworld 2008 in the Mellanox Technologies booth (#1139) from Sept. 16-18, 2008.
