PIKA Technologies' emphasis on customer needs paying off

OTTAWA, Sept. 17 /PRNewswire/ – PIKA Technologies Inc., a developer of media-processing hardware and software, has seen widespread adoption of its WARP appliance since launching the product in June, and has attracted strong endorsements from customers serving a variety of end-user verticals.

PIKA WARP the Appliance was created expressly for companies that build Linux-based custom IP-PBXs as well as other telecommunications solutions such as IVRs, dialers and logging systems, using both proprietary and open source software. Because of its compact size and cost effective pricing, the WARP appliance is ideal for small and medium enterprises.

Early adopters of the appliance from around the world represent a diverse range of end-user verticals, from energy, defence and construction to retail pharmaceutical, telecommunications and more general business and office environments.

"We've been delighted by the ready market acceptance and positive user feedback we've received for the WARP appliance in a few short months," said Terry Atwood, PIKA's vice president of sales, marketing and customer care. "The market's response demonstrates the importance of PIKA's ongoing commitment to being an active and engaged participant in the development community that is responsive to the needs of its customers."

For Linux telephony application developers and also compatible with both the Asterisk and FreeSWITCH development platforms, PIKA WARP the Appliance provides an embedded processor and a less expensive, more reliable and much more compact alternative to typical off-the-shelf computers with plug-in voice cards for voice-application deployment. For Scientific Retail Systems, Inc., the open-source functionality of the WARP appliance made it the ideal solution for its new PKon Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system. SRS develops a full range of pharmacy-management software and systems intended to streamline business processes and tailored specifically to the pharmacy environment where the timely and secure exchange of accurate patient information is paramount. Its PKon product portfolio includes solutions to integrate and manage every aspect of the operation, including prescriptions, inventory control, tracking, reporting, insurance billing and financial controls.

"When we set out to develop an IVR system for our customers based on open standards, the PIKA WARP appliance provided the functionality and compatibility with the Asterisk development platform we required," said Mark Mance, SRS's operations administrator. "It has allowed us to provide the kind of tailored solution needed to deliver efficient and reliable patient care in the retail pharmaceutical industry."

Klarya Inc. of Modena, Italy, develops and manufactures VoIP and IP communication platforms for small, medium and large enterprises, as well as providing custom software development. Its goal is to provide solutions for its customers that provide more effective communications at a lower price point than the alternatives. To maintain that edge over the competition, it turned to PIKA for a solution that would allow it to provide its Open Voice IP PBX system to customers in a more compact size and at a reduced cost.

"When we surveyed the market for an embedded appliance for the next generation of our Open Voice system, the PIKA WARP appliance proved to be the ideal solution," said Alberto Vinci, managing director of Klarya. "Its innovative design and small footprint was perfect for our needs."

When Datacom needed an embedded appliance that could deliver more features for customers on the Asterisk platform, it also turned to PIKA. Datacom provides communications infrastructure over satellite for companies with mission-critical operations in remote areas, with expertise in the energy, defence and construction industries. Its solutions must be robust and reliable enough to perform under rugged use in harsh conditions.

"While our solution could provide connectivity between a remote site and the outside world, it didn't include the ability to make calls between phones at the remote site," said Don Ducote, Datacom's telecom division manager. "PIKA WARP the Appliance delivered the features we needed to add this functionality, allowing us to provide a comprehensive solution to our customers."

At Voiceriver, Inc., which provides consulting and custom software engineering for the telecommunication industry, the emphasis was on finding an appliance that would allow it to build on its track record in creating carrier-grade applications for voice and text communications.

"As a solutions provider for the telecommunications industry with a history of developing custom solutions using plug-in voice cards, we constantly survey the market for technologies that will allow us to more quickly meet the diverse needs of our customers," said Jeff Knighton, founder of Voiceriver. "For our projects built on the Asterisk platform, the PIKA WARP appliance provides an affordable, flexible, consistent and reliable hardware platform unmatched by a typical off-the-shelf computer with a plug-in voice board."
