Mine Safety Appliances (MSA) is the global leader in the development of safety products. This includes everything from helmets used in construction and by the military to sophisticated thermal imaging cameras and GPS devices that help firefighters do dangerous work more safely. Like many companies, over the last year they have been moving forward aggressively with server virtualization and storage consolidation to better support their engineering, manufacturing, and business needs. To do this they deployed a combination of Citrix XenServer and NetApp® storage using NFS, and were very pleased with the results. In this article they describe why they chose these solutions, where they are today, and the additional changes they will be making in the immediate future.
