I've been using Tinycore Linux (actually microcore64 3.8.4, and most recently microcore64 4.0.2) as my primary OS for several months now, and I can have nothing but positive feedback.

I provide tech support from home for a living, so I use this system 10 - 14 hours a day, and it is rock solid. Robert and the entire Tinycore team are incredibly responsive to bug reports and questions. I find myself wondering when they sleep given the rapid pace of development and their seeming omnipresence in the forums.

I've been using computers for 20+ years, and Tinycore has me reconsidering how I use hard drives. I highly recommend this OS.

Puppy Linux has done most (not all) of what is discussed in this article for several years. It works great, very flexible! www.puppylinux.com Puppy is larger around 90MB but it has most of what a normal user needs. There are striped down versions of varies sizes available from the Puppy user community.

As well as his efforts on Damn Small Linux, Robert Shingledecker was one of the 1st people to bring Linux into Municipal IT as head of IT for Garden Grove, CA, leading to a very low cost, efficient municipal IT instance. You can read about his story in the VERY early days of Linux here:

Very interesting! I often use two similar (?) mini live distros, Puppy and SliTaz. It\'s nice to see how this compares :)

rrolsberg: Puppy is also a really great mini distro, there\'s no question about that. Tiny Core has a completely different philosophy however, which still makes it unique :-)
