Opera delivered a solid browser with Opera 10, but failed to see much uptake beyond its core audience of loyalists.

This is a weird assertion. Opera\'s user base has grown by more than 50% this year, up to 45 million users. That\'s more than double of what it had 2 years ago. Revenue grew by more than 100% quarterly for many quarters in a row.

Of mobile Web browsers, Apple’s Safari on the iPhone and iPod Touch is still king.

What? Opera is the mobile browser king. It has overtaken Safari this year, and is continuing to pull away:

http://gs.statcounter.com/#mobile_browser-ww-quarterly-200901-200904

Notice how Opera is growing quickly while the iPhone browser is going down?

Your assertions about Opera and the mobile market are nothing but puzzling.

You also have to take into consideration that many many people/households, and business are finally tired of trying to do business with Microsoft products (xp, Vista, Windows 7). I know I have switched over to Linux this fall and have not looked back. With tools like crossover office/games (there are others out there), there are very few apps that you need to run, that do not run on linux, or have a very good replacement linux app. Linux has matured to the point that installing is so much easier today, and synaptic gui package manager works very well. All this to say that with a fast growing linux user base, you would only expect all non Microsoft browsers to gain in popularity. As Google Chrome pluggins match those of firefox, I think firefox will be hurting. I just hope both browser will prevent memory leaks from happening in their plugins and browser, as that is one reason I am now using chrome over firefox.
