Regarding the "hiding" of the .deb files: From time to time comments are posted about Ubuntu's popularity, but I haven't seen any hard based evidence which indicates it is that much further ahead (if at all) in actual usage. These same sources state ease of use, good for beginners, etc. as a key advantage. If that were the case, these users wouldn't necessarily be a good fit for a beta program; which may be a explanation - but more likely no real reason. In any event, there is a hyperlink specifically for Debian based distributions on the download page.

LibreOffice is understandably pushing to get it's applications out the door. I was frustrated and saddened by the way their branding update wiped their programs out of my Ubuntu 10.04 panels. After no small amount of trial and error I was able to fix this problem only to have the branding update re-appear in my updates. I could not find a resolution via search or the web page.
This episode frustrated me to the point I went to a lesser product (gnome writer and spreadsheet). I would urge LibreOffice to conduct more intensive QA before posting it's products. Thank you

The things that worry ME about the future of LibreOffice are how to explain this fragmentation to non-geek people and the possibility of OpenDocument incompatibilities with OOo. See link below for details.

I agree with Meeks about online office suites. I can see why would I constantly need to be online to work on a simple document or why would I ever want important company's data in the hands of third-party?
