You can ease the content administration burden a lot with the Mollom module which automatically checks submitted content for potential spam or malware and challenges the submitter with a CAPTCHA if necessary. As to obtaining help: If you are truly serious with your Drupal site you should check into a local user group. You can search groups.drupal.org for one near you. Finally, a Drupal site does not have to look as boring as the screen dumps above. drupal.org has many freely available themes for download.
