Good article. I suspect it will take quite a while to solve/fix the user space problem. There are too many applications that just poll, and as was said in the article, this action was not a problem until tickless. While may maintainers my use the PowerTop program and fix their application it only takes one rouge application, and the power management goes to hell. For power management to really work I think the solution has to be within the kernel, having said that I don't know how the kernel can effectively control polling applications, but I am sure someone will come up with an answer. »
