The best OCR program I've used is Abbyy FineReader, and it's considered industry standard. 30 day trial, somewhat expensive for retail ($5-600 I believe). But it does a remarkable job, and it handles all the things that these Linux attempts don't - multiple fonts, multiple input types, multiple output types (including Word), multiple columns, defining non-text areas just before conversion to text, jpg'ing of images, etc. If you do OCR for more than just fun, I would definitely recommend it over any OS app currently available. »
